Geographic Setting


Terrain: Ban Lanyao tai belongs to a group of three villages some 15 km. West of Attapu: Lanyao Nua, Lanyao Kang and Lanyao Tai, inhabited by the Oy ethnic group and set on hills surrounded by ricefields at the foothills of the Bolaven Plateau between the Phou Doua (1050 m) and the Phou Khoumphouk(1364 m). Lanyao tai is regurlarly visited on the way to the Tatfok waterfall, distant about 3km. to the West. It has kept to some extent the shape of a roughly circular village around a large open space. But their is no community house in the center.
Climate: Tropical with heavy rainfall

Habitat

Because of the heavy rainfall in this area, most traditional homes are raised on stilts. Roofs have large eaves that extend past the living area protecting it from rain water.
